Of course, for the beginners, terms related to Rummy can be confusing. Therefore, we have come up with this small rummy dictionary for you. Look for the meaning for anything related to Rummy which is frequently associated with Rummy.

  • Rummy - A card melding game. Usually played between / among 2-6 players.
  • 13 cards rummy - A type of rummy game in which players will have 13 cards.
  • 101 pool rummy- It is a type of Pool rummy, in which a player gets eliminated on reaching 101 points.
  • 201 pool rummy- It is a type of Pool rummy in which a player gets eliminated on reaching 201 points.
  • Ace - Ace is marked “A” It will carry 10 points. It makes runs of, 2, 3 and King, Queen, Ace.
  • Rummy cash game- A rummy cash game is the one which you will be playing to win certain amount of money.
  • Points - Rummy cards will hold points. For instance, these cards carry 10 points such as face cards, Jack, King, Queen and Ac
  • Chips - Chips are referred to as virtual money. You can make use chips in order to play practice games.
  • Sequence - It is a group of three consecutive cards of the same suit. 2 3 4 5 is an example of a sequence.
  • Set - A set is a group of three or four cards with the same number but of different groups.
  • Pure sequence - A sequence which is made without making use of a joker.
  • Impure sequence - A sequence which is made without making use of a joker.
  • Best of two - A deals rummy in which rummy players will play two rounds of the game. A player who will have more number of chips will be declared winner.

  • Buy in - It is referred to as entree fee or cash amount which players need to put in before playing cash games.
  • Open deck - This is the discard pile. Players have the option to draw a rummy card from open deck or closed deck.
  • Closed deck - This is the discard pile. Players have the option to draw a rummy card from open deck or closed deck.
  • Deal - It is the distribution of the cards at the start of the rummy game.
  • Dealer - The one who will deal the cards is known as a dealer.
  • Deals rummy - A rummy game which will be played for 2-3 rounds. The player who will have more number of chips at the end of the game will be declared winner.
  • Face cards - They are referred to Jack, King, Queen and Ace cards. Each of these cards will carry 10 points.
  • Hand - Refers to cards which players get in the beginning of the game.
  • Meld - Any possible combination that players can make.
  • Melding - The process of making possible combinations or making melds.
  • Winner - The player who will meld all the cards / the one who will win at the end of the game.
  • Cash tournaments - Tournaments for which entry fee is needed. Cash Tournaments are played to win exciting cash amount or prizes.
  • Free tournaments - Tournaments for which no entry fee is needed.
  • Declare - The process of melding all the cards and laying them down.
  • Draw - Taking a card from open or closed pile in order to draw.
  • Drop - An option to quit the game at any point of time
  • Joker - A card which can be replaced with any card and can be used to make an impure sequence. It can either be a wild card or a printed joker.
  • Unmatched cards - Card which are not forming any sequence. When the game is declared the loss of the other players will be based on summing the value of the unmatched cards.
  • Wild card joker - Players can have the option to select any card randomly to use it as a joker. If the selected card is a 6, all 6’s can be used as wild card jokers.
  • Printed joker - Referred to a card which can be selected to make an impure sequence.
  • Shuffle - Refers to mixing of the cards.
